If you’re in search of a fun, energetic band to be the soundtrack of your upcoming summer, search no more. A few weeks ago I came in contact with this eccentric and different band and was lucky enough to have a private listen of their upcoming album Glittervomit.
The Burning Peppermints, are a psychedelic garage rock band from Birmingham, Alabama. In 2015, the band released their debut album Dirty Rainbow!! a 10 track album filled with a surf-rock vibe with only 25 copies of the album were made making it a lowkey release, and then later debuted on Spotify in 2016.
Also now available to purchase in their store!
Two years later, the band is back with their sophomore album Glittervomit, sticking to their psychedelic-garage-rock roots. This 8 track release proves growth and ready to take over the punk rock scene. Jake Wittig (guitar, vocals). Ahmad Farzad (bass) and Ryan Colebeck (drums) released their first single off the sophomore album called Mary Margaret in early April 2018, with a homemade music video that followed the release:
My first impression of this band was if the White Stripes and the Flaming Lips had a kick-ass baby, it would be the Burning Peppermints. The album glittervomit has the aggressive distorted White Stripes-esque sound while balancing a psychedelic feel of bands like the Flaming Lips, which is actually referenced on the bands’ page. A particular favourite song of mine on this album is I Need to be Alone (With Him), which is the softer song on the album that appropriately gives the groovy sound that fits the bands aesthetic. Another favourite is the energy-filled Crybaby, it has massive potential to be a summer anthem with its angry-political-message mixed with a guitar-heavy tune, you literally can’t help but bop your head to the beat.
For those of you who have been with me for a while already know that I wouldn’t have taken the time to write this if I didn’t genuinely believe this band has potential to kick-ass in the rock music community. The Burning Peppermints are fresh, different, and really good. I listen to so many “upcoming bands” and their SoundCloud links, but I hardly ever go back to them because they’re either lacking something or sound like every other band out there.
The Burning Peppermints are different, unlike most of these underground bands they have potential, and I am really excited to watch this band grow into something big like they deserve to be. For these reasons, I highly recommend for those who are fans of garage-rock to give them a listen on their Spotify !
Comment below your thoughts on this album, because I am super excited to know what you guys think of them and if you dig the album as much as I do! It will definitely be on replay for me this summer!
Glittervomit is available as of May 11, 2018!
